Name: Noah Joseph Spring
Owner: Sherri & Jim S.
City: Scottsdale, Arizona
Breed: English Springer Spaniel
Likes/Dislikes: Noah doesn’t like dogs that are not part of his pack. Noah loves diving for tennis balls in the swimming pool, snuggling next to one of us and stealing food off of any unguarded table!!
Favorite Toy/Treat/Walk: Noah’s favorite treats are Nylabones (we call them chewies)
Little Noah joined our family when he was 9 weeks old. He made the trip from southern California to Phoenix like a trooper. Noah fit right in with our other two Springers, Angel and Micah. Within a few days they were a pack.
Shortly after Noah’s arrival we noticed that his eyes seemed “squinty” and it appeared he had a stye on one eyelid. After a couple of trips to the vet Noah was diagnosed with entropion on both his upper and lower eyelids. Entropion is where the eyelids roll inward, with the eye lashes rubbing against the cornea. The stye-looking bump on his eyelid turned out to be Puppy Strangles. This is a disorder that affects puppies less than four months of age and is not completely understood. The styes are actually pustules which can spread to their muzzle, ears and lymph nodes. Noah ended up getting them on all four eyelids. The next four months were spent treating little Noah with prednisone which not only made his immune system vulnerable to diseases but it also made him VERY manic. He was one crazy puppy for a while. Once Noah was able to overcome the Puppy Strangles he headed to surgery to correct the Entropion.
We don’t know if the affects of the prednisone during those early months of Noah’s life left him permanently a bit manic or if he is one of those dogs that just have attitude! Whatever it is Noah is one crazy dog! He keeps us on our toes at all times.
At 2 1/2 years Noah is our baby, our joy, and yes a challenge each and every day.
Noah’s Scottsdale dog training with Sit Means Sit has done wonders for all three of our springers, especially Noah. I am able to walk all three of my springers together and have control over them even when other dogs are around.
Noah has a long way to go to get to a place where he will be truly comfortable around other dogs but that’s OK, cause we are there for him for a life time.
